Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) - CNA Training & Development (Pilot Program)

Location: Raleigh, NC

Schedule: Part-time, flexible hours, but must be available on Tuesdays for orientation classes
Compensation: Approximately $35/hour (flexible within range)
Program Length: Ongoing part-time role supporting a 2-year pilot program
Start Date: ASAP / Urgent need

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, engaging Registered Nurse (RN) to support a new CNA training pilot program designed to take individuals with no prior medical experience and prepare them to work as competent, confident CNAs in the field.

This role is ideal for a semi-retired RN, RN educator, or nursing student, or someone seeking meaningful part-time work with flexible scheduling. The RN will lead in-person training, skills assessments, and CNA development while collaborating closely with leadership to refine and scale the pilot program over time.

This is a non-medical home care organization (not home health). Services include personal care, companionship, and daily living support-no skilled nursing, wound care, or therapy services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver in-person CNA training as part of an 80-hour pilot program for entry-level candidates
  • Conduct weekly orientations (typically Tuesdays, noon-3:00 PM), including:
    • Skills assessments
    • Blood sugar monitoring
    • Diabetes education
  • Lead CNA-style coursework and hands-on training sessions
  • Train cohorts using one of the following formats:
    • 8 hours/day, 1 day per week for 10 weeks, or
    • 8 hours/day, 2 days per week for 5 weeks
  • Prepare candidates to successfully transition into active field assignments upon program completion
  • Facilitate advanced PCA training (4 hours, once per month)
  • Provide dementia training and enhanced PCA content as needed
  • Supervise CNAs and ensure training standards are met
  • Develop and/or utilize existing training modules, charts, and instructional materials
  • Assist in adapting and strengthening the pilot curriculum as the program evolves
  • Use basic technology (email, training modules, scheduling tools, documentation systems)

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Core orientation time is once weekly (Tuesdays, noon-3 PM)
  • Training hours may vary:
    • Some weeks may be full 8-hour training days
    • Some weeks may have limited or no training due to program timing
  • There may be gaps between cohorts
  • Opportunity for additional part-time hours as the agency grows

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Prior experience working with and/or supervising CNAs
  • Background in:
    • Home care
    • Home health
    • Skilled nursing facilities
      (Hospital-only experience is generally not a fit for this role)
  • Strong teaching, mentoring, and coaching skills
  • Comfortable training individuals with no prior healthcare experience
  • Basic computer skills (email, Word documents, scheduling and training platforms)
  • Ability to lead in-person, hands-on training sessions

Preferred:

  • Prior CNA instructor or nurse educator experience
  • Experience developing or implementing training programs
  • Semi-retired or flexible availability
  • Outgoing, positive, and approachable personality
